Since the Canada Online forum is a place for discussion, and the reason for posting news items should be to stimulate discussion, the best way to draw the forum's attention to a news item is to post a brief summary in your own words, with your comments, and then link to the original article.
Never post an entire article unless you own the copyright to it or have written permission from the copyright owner. If you have permission, please state that in your post.
If you feel that it is important to provide an excerpt of the news item, then
- keep excerpts short (three paragraphs absolute maximum).
- cite the source
- provide a link to the article at its original site
- avoid using graphics, except with stated permission (they are also covered by copyright, usually different than the article). Also do not link to graphics files (.jpg, etc) on someone else's server, since that is considered bandwidth theft.
- add your own viewpoint or comments to your posts
- be sure posts are relevant to Canada and Canadians.
